Volleyball Recap: Douglas County West Falls Despite Big Games from Kinley Nelson and Abby Rayer

Douglas County West came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Elkhorn Antlers, falling 3-0. The Falcon were not able to make up for their loss to the Antlers from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

While Douglas County West was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-10, 25-23, 25-11.

Abby Rayer and Kinley Nelson certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Rayer had 11 digs and three assists, while Nelson had six digs and two aces. Rayer has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last six times she's played.

Elkhorn got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Bailey Ferguson out in front who had 11 digs and five assists. That's the most assists Ferguson has posted over her last six matches.

Douglas County West dropped their record down to 8-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Elkhorn, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.

Douglas County West has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against Cedar Bluffs on the 27th. As for Elkhorn, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against North Platte on the 27th.
