Basketball Recap: Spring Valley Skates Past Lugoff-Elgin with Ease

Spring Valley won the last time they faced Lugoff-Elgin and things went their way on Friday too. The Spring Valley Vikings blew past the Lugoff-Elgin Demons, posting an 84-31 win. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 33 points or more this season.

Spring Valley had a senior duo take command as Mariana Moody dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 boards and Lauren Crosland went 10 of 16 en route to 23 points. With that strong performance, Crosland is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Jalaya Pinckney was another key player, putting up eight points.

Spring Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lugoff-Elgin only posted ten assists.

Lugoff-Elgin's loss came despite strong showings from Erin Manuel and Teryn Hobson. Manuel posted four points and seven rebounds, while Hobson put up six points in addition to 12 boards and six assists. Hobson has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played.

The victory made it two in a row for Spring Valley and bumps their season record up to 11-6. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spring Valley will venture away from home to take on West Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Spring Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten games -- so hopefully West Florence likes a good challenge. Lugoff-Elgin has already played their next contest (against Ridge View), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
