No. 8 defensive tackle backs out of his Letter of Intent after assistant coach leaves Tar Heels program.

In February, McKeesport defensive tackle Delvon Simmons, a MaxPreps.com four-star recruit and the eighth-ranked defensive tackle in the country, shocked a lot of people when he signed a letter of intent with North Carolina, considering he hadn't even made an official visit to Chapel Hill.

Turns out, Simmons doesn't want to go to North Carolina after all and asked for and was granted a release from his Letter of Intent.

According to Mark Kaboly of the McKeesport Daily News, things between Simmons and North Carolina began to fall apart when North Carolina assistant coach Brian Baker left for a job with the Dallas Cowboys. Baker would have been Simmons' position coach with the Tar Heels.

While Texas Tech and Southern California appear to be the favorites to land Simmons, especially Texas Tech which already has landed a pair of WPIAL recruits this year including Desimon Green from Clairton, a neighboring school district to McKeesport, Simmons hasn't decided where he wants to go.
