Softball Recap: Lone Star Picks Up 12th Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Lone Star, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They came out on top against The Colony Cougars by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday. The Rangers haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

BellaLucia Cantu spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Brooke Wooten and Serenity Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Wooten went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Smith went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits Smith has posted since back in April of 2024. Emma Alex was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Lone Star kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Lone Star pushed their record up to 11-7-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for The Colony, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-10.

Coming up, Lone Star will square off against Newman Smith at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lone Star is facing Newman Smith at the right time seeing as Newman Smith is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for The Colony, a feisty cat fight will be fought as The Colony Cougars face off against Turner Lions at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. They will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: Turner will have lost five straight heading into Friday's game.
