Volleyball Recap: Maryvale Prep Matador vs. Anthem Prep Eagles

Maryvale Prep was the 3-1 winner over Anthem Prep when they last played one another back in September, but their luck changed this time around. The Maryvale Prep Matador took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Anthem Prep Eagles on Thursday. The Matador have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Maryvale Prep was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Anthem Prep work for it, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 28-26, 20-25, 25-19.

Diana Frias paced Maryvale Prep's offense, picking up ten kills. Frias got some help from Calissa Chagnon and her 23 assists. Leilani Camacho controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Peyton Pfefferkorn was nothing short of spectacular for Anthem Prep: she had 16 digs and two aces. Pfefferkorn has been hot , having also posted 16 or more assists the last seven times she's played.

Maryvale Prep's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-5. As for Anthem Prep, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-7.

Maryvale Prep will venture away from home to take on Desert Heights Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Anthem Prep, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against San Pasqual Valley on the 25th.
