The Ponce De Leon Pirates will take on the Vernon Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Ponce De Leon put up the most runs they have all season on Monday. They never let Graceville get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Pirates as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Clara Martin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kiyann Alford was a standout: she scored three runs while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nikki Byrd, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Ponce De Leon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Vernon had just enough and edged out Bay 11-9 on Monday. With that win, the Yellowjackets brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Cheyenne Wilson, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. She also launched a home run, marking her first of the season. Lila Owens was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 4-12. As for Ponce De Leon, their win bumped their record up to 6-10.
Vernon's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Ponce De Leon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Vernon, though, as they've been averaging only 2.4 strikeouts. Will Ponce De Leon keep running through batters, or will the Yellowjackets buck the trend?
Ponce De Leon beat Vernon 9-4 when the teams last played back in March. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
