It's playoff time, and Maine South had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top against the Elk Grove Grenadiers on Wednesday by a score of 4-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). This was payback for the Hawks, who suffered a 9-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Maine South got a great performance from Connor Griffin as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Griffin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Eric Fugate, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Maine South is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-16 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Elk Grove, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-23.

As of now, neither Maine South nor the Grenadiers have any future games scheduled.
