Preview: St. Rita Mustangs vs. Kenwood Broncos

The St. Rita Mustangs will be playing at home against the Kenwood Broncos at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Rita had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against Marist by a score of 24-14. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but St. Rita was the (much) better team in the second half.

St. Rita's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jimmie Maxson iii led the charge by picking up 168 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Steven Armbruster, who threw for 176 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes.

Meanwhile, Kenwood was able to grind out a solid win over Whitney Young on Saturday, taking the game 26-19. The win made it back-to-back wins for Kenwood.

Kenwood can attribute much of their success to Mako Grant, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 37 receiving yards. I'Marion Stewart also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.

St. Rita has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 7-5 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.3 points per game. As for Kenwood, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.

St. Rita beat Kenwood 33-20 when the teams last played back in September. Does St. Rita have another victory up their sleeve, or will Kenwood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
