Basketball Recap: Heritage Piles Up the Points Against Southern Wells

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Heritage). They blew past the Southern Wells Raiders 80-50 on Saturday. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 28 points or more this season.

Heritage's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landon Lybarger, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lantae Cassel, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists.

Heritage was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Southern Wells lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cj Reber, who posted 19 points in addition to six boards and five assists. The dominant performance also gave Reber a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Joshua Aulbach, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards.

Heritage's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Southern Wells, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Heritage will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fort Wayne Snider at 7:30 p.m. on January 22nd. Heritage is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season. As for Southern Wells, they will square off against Adams Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
