Volleyball Recap: Greenbrier West Takes a Loss

Greenbrier West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sherman Tide. The Cavaliers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tide apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Greenbrier West sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 22-25, 15-8.

Sherman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emma Russell, who had 27 assists and six digs. Russell has been hot for a while, having posted 14 or more assists the last 23 times she's played. Audrina Smith was another key player, getting 14 digs.

Greenbrier West's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14-1. As for Sherman, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4-1.

Looking ahead, Greenbrier West will square off against Independence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sherman, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Buffalo on the 4th.
