Utica and Chippewa Valley squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Utica had to settle for second. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Big Reds. The Chieftains' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Utica started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 15-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20.

Rachel Durecki paced Utica's offense, picking up eight kills. Durecki got some help from Rachel Rettell and her 12 assists. Finally, Jada Austin kept Utica's defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.

Utica's defeat dropped their record down to 17-21-1. As for Chippewa Valley, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 23-12-1.

Utica does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chippewa Valley, they will host Oxford at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
