Basketball Recap: North Marion's Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak at Home

North Marion entered their game against Lake Weir on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The North Marion Colts fell just short of the Lake Weir Hurricanes by a score of 61-59. The Colts were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hurricanes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

North Marion lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Coy Sizemore, who went 5 of 7 en route to 14 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Elijah Lee, who posted nine points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Lake Weir had a senior duo take command as Alcarlos Richard dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds and John Smith went 6 of 7 on his way to 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel Henderson, who put up ten points.

North Marion's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-4. As for Lake Weir, they pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

North Marion wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 38-35 victory against Columbia on the 11th. As for Lake Weir, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-31 win against Belleview on the 10th.
