Basketball Recap: Sierra Grande Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jadyn Martinez and Aron Ojeda

After a string of four wins, Sierra Grande's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Sanford Mustangs an easy 66-45 win. The Panthers lost against the Mustangs in their previous head to head back in February of 2020, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 80-36 score last time.

Aron Ojeda and Jadyn Martinez certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Ojeda went 5 for 12 on his way to 13 points in addition to six boards and four steals, while Martinez posted 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Martinez is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season.

Even though they lost, Sierra Grande smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Sierra Grande's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-2. As for Sanford, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2.

Sierra Grande didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 46-45 win against De Beque on the 21st. As for Sanford, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 70-65 defeat against Mesa Vista on the 21st.
