Basketball Recap: Laney Wildcats vs. Thomson Bulldogs
Laney lost against Thomson back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Laney Wildcats took a 59-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thomson Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 25th).
When it comes to explaining why Laney lost, don't look at Memorie Rhodes. Despite the final result, she went 8 of 18 en route to 22 points and three steals. Rhodes has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Chiquita Gaffney, who posted five points and 19 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Laney smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.
Mariah Martin was nothing short of spectacular for Thomson: she dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards. Those 22 points gave Martin a new career-high. Jada Kendrick was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Laney now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Thomson, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 18-1.
Laney wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 88-37 loss against Josey on the 28th. As for Thomson, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-42 victory against Butler on the 27th.
