Harding University and West Mecklenburg are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Harding University Rams are taking a road trip to face off against the West Mecklenburg Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Harding University and 16 for West Mecklenburg.

Harding University is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Hough on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Harding University was dealt a 59-31 loss at the hands of Hough. The Rams were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-18.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when West Mecklenburg challenged Rocky River on Wednesday. West Mecklenburg was beaten by Rocky River 72-16. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 493rd, while the Ravens are ranked 168th).

West Mecklenburg's defeat dropped their record down to 3-18. As for Harding University, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.

Harding University strolled past West Mecklenburg in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 45-30. Will Harding University repeat their success, or does West Mecklenburg have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
