Basketball Recap: Jason Shi's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cupertino over Fremont

Cupertino was the 33-31 winner over Fremont when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Cupertino Pioneers took a 46-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fremont Firebirds. The defeat leaves the Pioneers without a win on the season.

Cupertino's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jason Shi, who went 8 for 11 on his way to 19 points. The dominant performance gave Shi a new career-high in points. Nikita Kuznetsov was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 10 points.

Cupertino's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Fremont, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Cupertino has already played their next match, a 51-31 loss against Sequoia on the 7th. As for Fremont, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 73-51 victory against Santa Clara on the 9th.
