The Northside Mustangs will challenge the Payton College Prep Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Northside has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Northside came up short against De La Salle on Thursday, falling 12-6. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Meteors recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Payton Phoxay was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Teodora Ilic, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Payton College Prep entered their tilt with Trinity on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Blazers by a score of 12-7.
Johannah Kimbler made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Payton College Prep got a massive performance out of Evelyn Suss, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave Suss a new career-high. Sophie Spreen was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Payton College Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Northside's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Payton College Prep, their win bumped their record up to 7-10.
Northside was able to grind out a solid victory over Payton College Prep in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 11-7. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
