Baseball Recap: Salmon Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

There's no place like home for Salmon, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Everything went their way against the West Jefferson Panthers on Thursday as they made off with an 18-4 victory. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 16-1 victory two weeks ago.

Kesl Severe was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Severe was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Salmon's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 2-9-1 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Clayton Allen was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and four runs. Salmon is 2-1 when Allen posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-8-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Gauge Stephenson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Salmon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive matchups.

Salmon moved to 5-9-1 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for West Jefferson, they dropped their record down to 0-12 with the loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Salmon will venture away from home to challenge Challis at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Savages' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. West Jefferson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
