Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Martin County). Their defense stepped up to hand the First Flight Nighthawks a 9-0 shutout on Wednesday. The win was all the more spectacular given Martin County's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 523rd, while First Flight are ranked 82nd).

With the victory, Martin County broke their three-match losing streak and moved their record to 2-9-4. As for First Flight, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 8-3-1.

Looking ahead, Martin County will look to defend their home pitch on Monday against Pasquotank County at 6:00 p.m. As for First Flight, they are taking a road trip to face off against Richlands at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
