Chase Mercer put up the most strikeouts he's had since back in May of 2024 on Friday. He struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Fremont is 6-3 when Mercer allows three or fewer earned runs, but 7-10 otherwise.

Mercer's effort led Fremont over Holton and he'll get a chance to do so again: the teams have a rematch scheduled at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
