Softball Game Preview: La Joya Community Fighting Lobos vs. Independence Patriots

For the second straight game, La Joya Community will face off against Independence. The Fighting Lobos will venture away from home to face off against the Patriots at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

La Joya Community took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Independence by a score of 9-4.

Andrea Leon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits.

At the plate, Anaya Romero was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last eight games she's played. Mariah Lozano was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Romero wasn't the only one working in the home run department: La Joya Community lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in six consecutive games.

La Joya Community has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.6 runs over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Independence fell to 8-1.

Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. La Joya Community hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .426. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
