Basketball Recap: Christian Santillanes Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Capital

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Atrisco Heritage Academy, Manzano was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Capital Jaguars by a score of 48-39. This was a revenge game for the Monarchs: when they faced off against the Jaguars back in January, they had to take a 60-50 defeat.

Manzano's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christian Santillanes, who went 5-for-11 on his way to 10 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. What's more, Santillanes posted two blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bryce Johnson, who put up 12 points in addition to seven boards and three blocks.

Manzano's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 7-18. As for Capital, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-17 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manzano will face off against La Cueva at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. La Cueva will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Manzano surely won't give up without a fight. As for Capital, they will challenge Eldorado at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Capital is facing Eldorado at the right time seeing as Eldorado is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
