The Vasquez Mustangs will take on the Bishop Union Broncos at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Bishop Union will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Vasquez extended their winning streak to four on Thursday. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out Desert Christian 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted since March 8th.
Luke Real was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Real was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Landon McGriff was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That double was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Jacobson, who scored two runs.
Meanwhile, Bishop Union got the win against Mammoth on Tuesday by a conclusive 23-3. Considering the Broncos have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bishop Union got a massive performance out of Will Kemp, who scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Kemp is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Brayden Leeson was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Bishop Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Bishop Union pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Vasquez, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Vasquez hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Bishop Union struggles in that department as they've averaged .390. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
