Baseball Recap: Simla Extends Road Winning Streak to Four

Simla won against Otis on Thursday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Cubs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Calhan Bulldogs a 15-0 shutout. The Cubs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by eight runs or more this season.

Treven Kocerha and T.J. Eurich made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kocerha pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Eurich struck out eight batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Kocerha went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Eurich went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Eurich has become a key player for Simla: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Keygon Frihauf was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caston Cox, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Simla was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Simla's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Calhan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11-2 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Simla beat Calhan by a score of 19-3 later that day.
