Basketball Game Preview: Wake Prep Academy Guardians vs. Perquimans Pirates

Two dominant guards in Beanie Ballman and Lailana Marie Harris are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Wake Prep Academy Guardians will venture away from home to challenge the Perquimans Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Wake Prep Academy sitting on 17 straight victories and Perquimans on ten.

Wake Prep Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They secured a 56-51 W over Pamlico County.

Wake Prep Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Abriella Waige led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Waige continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Zanasha Bolden was another key player, putting up nine points and seven steals.

Wake Prep Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Perquimans). They took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 77-37 win over Bear Grass Charter. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 23 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Perquimans' victory was their 18th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 27-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.7 points on average over those games. As for Wake Prep Academy, their win bumped their record up to 23-3.
