Basketball Recap: Bullard Triumphs

Bullard won the last time they faced Sunnyside and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Bullard Knights sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 65-62 victory over the Sunnyside Wildcats. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while the Wildcats are ranked 284th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Malachi Barnes, who posted 23 points. Barnes' evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of CJ Jones, who had 21 points.

Bullard is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.6 points per game. As for Sunnyside, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-10 record this season.

Bullard will head out to face off against Hoover at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Bullard is facing Hoover at the right time seeing as Hoover is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Sunnyside, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Sunnyside Wildcats face off against the San Joaquin Memorial Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. San Joaquin Memorial will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something Sunnyside surely won't give up without a fight.
