Basketball Recap: Page Falls Despite Big Games from Mason Grainger and Lola Vanore

Page lost against Northern Guilford back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Page Pirates came up short against the Northern Guilford Nighthawks, falling 76-50. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Nighthawks are ranked 47th).

Despite the loss, Page had strong showings from Lola Vanore, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 14 points and four steals, and Mason Grainger, who went 5 for 12 en route to 13 points and six boards. Those 13 points gave Grainger a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Pyrtle, who posted eight points.

Northern Guilford's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Leena McField, who almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine rebounds. McField is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. Malena DeLisa was another key player, going 6 for 14 en route to 15 points along with five assists and five steals.

Page has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Northern Guilford, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Page wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 48-44 defeat against Southwest Guilford on the 24th. Northern Guilford has also already played their next contest, a 44-42 win against Ragsdale on the 24th.
