Baseball Game Preview: Covenant Christian Warriors vs. Monrovia Bulldogs

The Covenant Christian Warriors are taking a road trip to take on the Monrovia Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither Covenant Christian nor Monrovia posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Covenant Christian managed to slip by Guerin Catholic the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Warriors lost 11-1 to the Golden Eagles on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Warriors have suffered against the Golden Eagles since April 10, 2019.

Blake Cope made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

Irvington Preparatory Academy hit Monrovia with a five-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bulldogs took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Irvington Preparatory Academy. The Bulldogs' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Monrovia saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grant Kluemper, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Monrovia's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Covenant Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-10.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Covenant Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Monrovia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Covenant Christian took their victory against Monrovia when the teams last played back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 9-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
