Recap: Umatilla Bulldogs vs. East Ridge Knights
Make it eight blowout wins for the Umatilla Bulldogs this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Monday as they easily beat East Ridge 72-41 at home. Winning may never get old, but Umatilla sure is getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Umatilla's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Artis James led the charge by scoring 13 points along with seven assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Jay Miller, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why East Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jordan Corman. Despite the final result, he scored seven points along with ten rebounds and three steals. Corman is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Simmons, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, East Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Umatilla pushed their record up to 15-3 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 25.5 points. As for East Ridge, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-19.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Umatilla won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lake Weir at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Lake Weir will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 450th, while Umatilla is ranked 186th). East Ridge on the road again on Wednesday and play against Hope Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully Hope Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 last Saturday.
