Basketball Game Preview: Bellaire Big Reds vs. Cambridge Bobcats

The Bellaire Big Reds will face off against the Cambridge Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Bellaire will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Shadyside, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Bellaire simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Shadyside 76-40. That looming 76-40 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Big Reds yet this season.

Bellaire relied on the efforts of Raekwon Pettigrew, who went 13 for 23 on his way to 32 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals, and Caleb Jewell, who went 8 for 19 on his way to 23 points and seven rebounds. Pettigrew's afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles (Trey) Dunn, who posted seven points.

Bellaire was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, Cambridge entered their contest against St. Clairsville on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Cambridge fell 63-55 to St. Clairsville.

Cambridge's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-5. As for Bellaire, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-7.
