Basketball Recap: Hopewell Skates Past Meadowbrook with Ease

Hopewell put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past the Meadowbrook Monarchs 79-37. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-20.

Leading Hopewell to victory were Deshawn Spellman and Nick Byrd. Spellman went 8 of 11 en route to 26 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Byrd went 8 of 10 en route to 21 points and seven assists. The contest was Spellman's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Stephon Cherry, who posted ten points.

Hopewell pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Meadowbrook, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

When Hopewell and Meadowbrook next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Hopewell will try to stop Matoaca's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopewell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 82.5 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Meadowbrook will try to stop Thomas Dale's four-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
