Softball Recap: Five Straight Home Victories for Carroll

There's no place like home for Carroll, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past the Miller Buccaneers 12-2 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 16 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Ali Ann Deleon spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Carroll let Talina Valdez and Jaslyn Yzaguirre run wild. Valdez went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Yzaguirre went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Valdez has posted since back in February. Graciela Recio also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Carroll kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive games.

Carroll's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Miller, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 16 of their last 20 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-18 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carroll will challenge Ray at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Miller, they will square off against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their 24th straight victory, something the Buccaneers surely won't give up without a fight.
