Eastern and Sheridan are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Comets will be playing at home against the Blackhawks at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Eastern is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Eastern came up short against Clinton Prairie and fell 8-3. The loss continues a trend for the Comets in their meetings with the Gophers: they've now lost four in a row.
Eastern saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emillia Andrews, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Mackenzea Causey was another, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sheridan sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Tri-Central on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blackhawks.
Amiyah Doss and Hayleigh Kemp did most of the damage at the plate: Doss went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Kemp got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Rusk, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Sheridan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Eastern's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 9-11. As for Sheridan, their win bumped their record up to 3-9.
Sheridan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Eastern has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Sheridan, though, as they've been averaging 12.5 hits. Given Eastern's sizable advantage in that area, the Blackhawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
Eastern got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Sheridan by a conclusive 18-11 score. Do the Comets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blackhawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
