Baseball Recap: Loyd Star's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

Loyd Star can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They walked away with a 10-5 victory over the West Lincoln Bears. With that win, the Hornets brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Carson Cunningham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Loyd Star is 6-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 7-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Loyd Star let Kayne Case and Eli Thornton run wild. Case scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Thornton scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Thornton has become a key player for Loyd Star: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Jordyn Kees was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Loyd Star's victory bumped their record up to 13-11. As for West Lincoln, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-9.

Looking ahead, Loyd Star will head out on the road to take on Franklin County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a four-game losing streak. West Lincoln does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
