Soccer Game Preview: Service vs. West Valley

The Service Cougars will head out to take on the West Valley Wolf Pack at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Service's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Service is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Lathrop, who was ranked 16th at the time (Service was ranked tenth). The Cougars never let the Malemutes get on the board and left with a 1-0 win on Friday. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but Service were the better team in the second half.

Meanwhile, West Valley came tearing into Friday's match with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 goals), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Thunderbirds as they made off with a 3-0 victory. Give West Valley's defense some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.

They hit Bettye Davis East Anchorage with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Forrest Wiegand, Django Gianakopoulos, and Pete Hilpert.

West Valley's win bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Service, they now have a winning record of 8-7-1.
