Baseball Recap: Wendover Comes Up Short

Wendover extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They came up short against the Tintic Miners, falling 17-2. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Miners from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

As for Tintic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-4. The result was nothing new for the Miners, who have now won three matches by 14 runs or more so far this season.

For Tintic's part, Kaylon Steele and Kelan Bigler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Steele tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bigler struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Tintic's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). At the plate, Steele went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Bigler got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Emmitt Despain and Camden Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Despain went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Johnson went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Johnson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylon Jones, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Wendover will challenge Intermountain Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Tintic, they will take on Bryce Valley at 6:00 p.m. on the 30th.
