Red Bluff is 2-8 against Chico since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Red Bluff will face off against Chico at 2:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Red Bluff will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Pleasant Valley, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Red Bluff walked away with a 6-2 victory over Pleasant Valley on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
The team relied heavily on Jett Bonham, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Kelan Elliott also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Chico put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Las Plumas as Chico made off with a 9-3 win. Nine seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Tanner Horn and Jordan Neugebauer made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Horn pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Neugebauer tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time Horn hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Horn scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Neugebauer scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Neugebauer is on a roll when it comes to hits, as he's now got three or more in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Alex Schukei was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Tweedt, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
The win got Red Bluff back to even at 5-5. As for Chico, their record now sits at 10-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Red Bluff has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Chico struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Red Bluff couldn't quite finish off Chico when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can Red Bluff avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
