Basketball Game Preview: McCutcheon Mavericks vs. Crawfordsville Athenians

McCutcheon is a perfect 7-0 against Crawfordsville since December of 2014 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The McCutcheon Mavericks will look to defend their home court against the Crawfordsville Athenians at 7:30 p.m. McCutcheon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season.

Crawfordsville is facing McCutcheon at the wrong time: McCutcheon suffered their first home loss of the season on Thursday and they're likely out for redemption. They lost 68-46 to the Bronchos. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Bronchos are ranked 29th).

Despite the loss, McCutcheon saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brody Baker posted 16 points. Baker's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Souligne, who scored nine points.

Meanwhile, Crawfordsville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 58-53 to Western Boone. The Athenians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Crawfordsville's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for McCutcheon, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.

Everything came up roses for McCutcheon against Crawfordsville in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 71-36 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Crawfordsville's Ethan Mclemore, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 22 points and three steals.
