Basketball Recap: Needville Falls Despite Big Games from Ralphie Ortiz and Bohdan Zeitz

Needville played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 60-40 to the La Marque Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Bluejays can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 947th, while the Cougars are ranked 159th).

Needville's loss came despite strong showings from Bohdan Zeitz and Ralphie Ortiz. Zeitz went 6 for 13 on his way to 14 points, while Ortiz posted six points and eight boards. James Schreck was another key player, putting up eight points.

Needville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points per game. As for La Marque, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 30-2.

Needville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 62-38 defeat against Wharton on the 28th. As for La Marque, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-25 victory against Bay City on the 28th.
