Basketball Recap: Kendall Proffitt Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Fernandina Beach

There's no place like home for St. Johns Country Day, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Fernandina Beach Pirates by a score of 49-36 on Saturday. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 78-11 loss the last time these two teams met.

St. Johns Country Day's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kendall Proffitt led the charge by dropping a double-double on 25 points and 15 boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which Proffitt has scored at least a third of St. Johns Country Day's points. Sophia Mejias was another key player, putting up 19 points and five steals.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Savina Wells, who posted seven points in addition to 12 boards and four blocks. Wells is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amelia Arline, who had 11 points.

St. Johns Country Day's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Fernandina Beach, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

St. Johns Country Day wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-20 win against Covenant School of Jacksonville on the 9th. As for Fernandina Beach, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 33-23 loss against Baker County on the 9th.
