Baseball Recap: Newport - Bellevue Comes Up Short

Newport - Bellevue was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mercer Island Islanders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered since March 17th.

Max Higbee was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March.

On the hitting side, Newport - Bellevue saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sebastian Unay, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. That RBI was Unay's first of the season.

Newport - Bellevue's record now sits at 1-12. As for Mercer Island, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newport - Bellevue will head out to challenge Skyline at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mercer Island, they will venture away from home to face off against Bothell at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
