Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Branham). They put the hurt on the Leland Chargers with a sharp 21-9 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Jacque Connolly - Hojas made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Connolly - Hojas was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on CC Bonnard, who went 4-for-6 with one home run, nine RBI, and two runs. Those nine RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madelyn Steiner, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.
Branham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .596. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive games.
Branham has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Leland, they dropped their record down to 4-11 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home.
