Basketball Game Preview: Chipley Tigers vs. Holmes County Blue Devils

The Chipley Tigers will face off against the Holmes County Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Chipley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Fans were treated to a Battle of the Tigers on Thursday. Chipley came out on top against Graceville by a score of 51-42.

Chipley found their leader in sophomore Niyonah Garner, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds gave Garner a new career-high. Addyson Suggs was another key player, putting up ten points.

Chipley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Holmes County rose to the challenge on Thursday. They took down the Pirates 56-40. The win was familiar territory for the Blue Devils who have now won ten contests in a row.

Chipley better keep an eye on Emma Whitaker. She was instrumental in Holmes County's win, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards. Whitaker is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jacee Bowers, who posted ten points and four steals.

Chipley's record is now 16-7. As for Holmes County, their record is now 22-2.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Chipley has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Holmes County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Chipley was taken down by Holmes County 69-25 when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Holmes County's Bri Adams, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten steals.
