Basketball Recap: Gillespie Makes It Six in a Row at Home

There's no place like home for Gillespie, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They came out on top against the Nokomis Redskins by a score of 60-50 on Thursday. This was a revenge game for the Miners: when they faced off against the Redskins last Saturday, they had to take a 47-43 defeat.

Several Redskins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Natalie Brownback, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Brownback a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alivia Sabol, who posted ten points and six rebounds.

Gillespie's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for Nokomis, their loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-3.

Gillespie and Nokomis should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Gillespie (ranked 148th) will meet Bunker Hill (ranked 631st) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Nokomis (ranked 120th) will meet North Mac (ranked 453rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
