Basketball Game Preview: Thornton Academy Trojans vs. Sanford Spartans

The Thornton Academy Trojans will venture away from home to challenge the Sanford Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sanford took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Thornton Academy, who comes in off a win.

Thornton Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Edward Little, who was ranked 20th at the time (Thornton Academy was ranked 19th). Thornton Academy snuck past Edward Little with a 52-46 victory on Tuesday. While the Trojans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Sanford suffered their biggest defeat since February 15, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against Deering, falling 76-56. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Thornton Academy's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Sanford, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
