Baseball Recap: Paul Laurence Dunbar Takes a Loss

Paul Laurence Dunbar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Boyd County Lions. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 12-0 to the Lions when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Carson Quenon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

Paul Laurence Dunbar's loss dropped their record down to 8-24. As for Boyd County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 20 of their last 21 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Paul Laurence Dunbar will welcome Franklin-Simpson at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Boyd County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Johnson Central at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
