Basketball Recap: Julian Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Julian played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Cristo Rey, falling 54-30. The Eagles were down 44-21 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Julian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Pete Vanderstaay, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards, and Ozzie Main, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 16 boards. What's more, Vanderstaay also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Ricky Aceves, who posted five points and ten rebounds.

Xavier Sawaya was nothing short of spectacular for Cristo Rey: he almost dropped a double-double on 28 points and nine steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sawaya has scored at least a third of Cristo Rey's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jorge Alcazar, who had 15 points and five steals.

Julian's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1. As for Cristo Rey, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Julian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-25 loss against Hamilton on the 6th. As for Cristo Rey, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-26 defeat against Ocean View Christian on the 5th.
