Soccer Game Preview: Wheeling Park vs. Cabell Midland

The Wheeling Park Patriots will head out to square off against the Cabell Midland Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Wheeling Park is coming into the match hot, having won their last eight games.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Wheeling Park and The Linsly School, and Wheeling Park kept the tradition alive. The Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over the Cadets on Thursday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Wheeling Park's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked sixth, while The Linsly School are ranked 42nd).

Wheeling Park's one-goal win came courtesy of Samuel Rockey, who's now up to five this season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to four goals the game before, Cabell Midland was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. While the 0-0 score might suggest a draw, it was Hurricane who was credited with the victory. The Redskins got it done in the shootout by posting five goals to Cabell Midland's four.

Cabell Midland's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4-4. As for Wheeling Park, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.

Everything went Wheeling Park's way against Cabell Midland when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Wheeling Park made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
