Baseball Game Preview: Hudson Raiders vs. New Richmond Tigers

The Hudson Raiders are taking a road trip to face off against the New Richmond Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. New Richmond took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Hudson, who comes in off a win.

Hudson had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Sun Prairie East on Saturday. The Raiders put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 12-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Myles Howe tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jace Mataczynski and Sam Manchester did most of the damage at the plate: Mataczynski went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Manchester went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Spencer Bullis also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, New Richmond has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.6 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They lost 17-7 to Somerset. While the Tigers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Spartans 4-0 in the first period.

Hudson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for New Richmond, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-2.

Hudson took their victory against New Richmond in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-4 score. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
