The Chittenango Bears will take on the Marcellus Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Chittenango barely beat Jamesville-DeWitt the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bears blew past the Red Rams 11-1 on Friday. The win was nothing new for the Bears as they're now sitting on three straight.
Lauren Machan made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karalynne Carmon, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Izzy McClusky, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Chittenango kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Marcellus, as they earned their first away victory of the season. Everything went their way against Westhill on Thursday as they made off with a 12-3 win. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Wolf Pack recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Like Chittenango, Marcellus also got a great game from a two-way player: Carly Sears. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Sears was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Millie Novitsky was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2025. Mariah Kolm was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs.
Chittenango's record now sits at 8-3. As for Marcellus, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 5-3.
Chittenango's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Bears have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Marcellus, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Chittenango continue to outrun the ball?
Chittenango couldn't quite get it done against Marcellus when the teams last played back in May of 2025 as they fell 10-6. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
